You may think Pastor John Parker is caucasian when you see the bulletin or speak with him over the phone, but Pastor John is a 4th generation American of pure Korean descent. His grandfather changed the name from Park to Parker in the early 1900's to do business during a time of intense discrimination. Interestingly enough, all the males in the family continue to marry 1st generation females. However, you cannot assume Pastor John understands Korean or speaks the language. After all he only knew how to say "bab" and "kimchee" when they first met. His wife, Pastor Shin, preaches for the older children for the mother church. They have two daughters, Pearl who is 13 and Jacqueline who is 10.
Pastor John's primary goal is to "equip the saints for the work of ministry..." (Ephesians 4:12-16) Through preaching God's Word, building relationships, and discipleship, Pastor John is excited to see God transform this congregation. Pastor John was a Bishop Golden Scholar in 1994 for his involvement in the LA riots and graduated in 1995 with the Denman Preaching Award. He has a reputation for preaching the depth and breadth of God's Word, including all 27 chapters of Leviticus.
Pastor John is heavily involved in missions and serves on the advisory board for JAMA (Jesus Awakening Movement for All). Having a heart for training the next generation, he is also serves on the curriculum committee for the Global Leadership Development Institute which will launch this summer for 40 days.
